Chapter 15 - The Dawn We Waited For

The blinding glare of the morning sun poured through the shattered glass entryway of Mercy General Hospital, illuminating the quiet, exhausted faces of Leo and Maya. Thomas Henderson was already being hauled away by the federal marshals, cursing furiously into the cold air as his illegal empire collapsed completely around him.

Arthur Vance walked over to the two children, holding up his wrists to show the broken zip-ties the federal agents had cut off just moments before. "My legal team cleared the federal charges in record time," Arthur explained, offering a warm, genuine smile that finally reached his eyes. "The internal audit proved the forged ledger originated from the municipal zoning office, not my foundation."

Leo let out a long, shaky breath, the immense weight of the past week finally lifting from his small shoulders. He looked up at Arthur, his blue eyes no longer filled with fear, but with a quiet, profound respect. "You really came back for us."

"I told you I would," Arthur replied softly, crouching down so he was eye-to-eye with both children. "And that's not all. Your mother is fully conscious at County General. Her rehabilitation is fully funded, and her new apartment lease is already signed—clean, safe, and close to the park."
