Chapter 12 - The Accusation

The silence in the VIP lounge became absolute and suffocating. The color drained entirely from the hospital administrator’s face as he slowly backed toward the door, as if standing near Arthur Vance suddenly felt like standing next to a ticking bomb.
Arthur stared down at the tablet screen, his expression freezing into a mask of pure, razor-sharp steel. The anchor’s voice continued to drone on in the background, detailing shell companies, forged signatures, and offshore accounts tied directly to the Vance Family Foundation's secondary investment portfolio.
"This is a complete fabrication," Arthur said, his voice terrifyingly calm, though a muscle feathered violently along his jawline. "A crude, last-minute forgery designed to deflect blame away from Henderson and frame me before I could expose the entire municipal council."
Senator Vance slowly stood up from her chair, looking at her nephew with a mixture of shock and profound disappointment. "Arthur... is any of this true? Do we have holdings tied to Henderson's LLC?"
"Only through an unvetted subsidiary acquired by our real estate division last month—a subsidiary that my chief financial officer managed without my direct oversight," Arthur replied quickly, turning to face her with urgent intensity. "Evelyn, you know me. You know how my foundation operates. Someone inside my own executive board sold me out to protect the corrupt zoning officials in this city."
Leo stepped between them, his blue eyes wide with panic and betrayal. He looked from Arthur to the tablet screen, his voice trembling. "You said you owned the building. You said you were going to save us! Was all of that just a lie to get on TV?"
"No, Leo! Look at me," Arthur said, taking a step forward, his hands raised defensively. "I bought that building with my own personal capital to protect you and your mother. I didn't know about the criminal ring until last night. You have to believe me."
"How can we believe anything anyone says anymore?" Maya began to cry softly, pulling the blanket up over her shoulders as the fear returned in full force. "Everyone just lies to us. We want our mom!"
Before Arthur could answer, heavy footsteps echoed down the private hallway outside the suite. The double doors banged open without warning, and three federal agents in dark windbreakers stepped into the room, their badges gleaming coldly under the fluorescent lights.

"Mr. Arthur Vance?" the lead agent demanded, stepping forward with an arrest warrant clutched in his hand. "You are being detained for questioning regarding corporate fraud, financial collusion, and obstruction of justice in connection with the West Maple Street investigation. Turn around and place your hands behind your back."
