Chapter 14 - The Final Trap at the Exit

Leo held Maya’s hand tightly as Nurse Sarah guided them out of the elevator and into the main lobby of Mercy General Hospital. The morning rush was in full swing, with patients, doctors, and visitors streaming through the sliding glass doors. But as they approached the exit, the crowd suddenly parted, creating an uneasy circle around a familiar, menacing figure standing near the reception desk.
It was Thomas Henderson.
He looked battered, with a fresh white bandage plastered across his left cheek and his cheap polyester jacket torn at the shoulder, but his eyes burned with a manic, unhinged fury. He was holding a heavy, rusted iron pipe loosely in his right hand, tapping it rhythmically against his thigh as he blocked their path to the exit.
"Thought you got rid of me, didn't you, you little rats?" Henderson snarled, his voice carrying clearly across the lobby. Heads snapped around in shock, and several nurses gasped, backing away quickly.
Nurse Sarah immediately stepped in front of Leo and Maya, spreading her arms wide to shield them. "Step back right now, Henderson! The police were just here—you're already a wanted man!"
"I've got nothing left to lose!" Henderson screamed, his face contorting into an ugly rage as he pointed the pipe directly at Leo. "That billionaire bastard Vance took my building, took my money, and now the cops are looking for me because of these miserable brats! I'm going down, but I'm making sure everyone knows who started this!"
Maya let out a terrified shriek and buried her face in Leo’s blue hoodie. Leo’s heart hammered against his ribs like a trapped bird. He looked around frantically for security guards, but the lobby guards were pinned behind the commotion near the elevators. They were entirely on their own.
"Leave us alone!" Leo shouted, stepping past Nurse Sarah with sudden, desperate courage, putting himself directly between the madman and his little sister. "It wasn't our fault you broke the law! You stole from our mom!"
Henderson lunged forward, raising the iron pipe high above his head with a terrifying roar. "I'll teach you to run your mouth to the cops, you little punk!"
Nurse Sarah lunged forward to grab Henderson’s arm, but she was too slow. The heavy pipe swung down with sickening speed straight toward Leo’s head.
Before the blow could land, a deafening crash echoed through the lobby. The heavy glass sliding doors shattered into a million glittering pieces as a dark SUV slammed gently into the exterior frame, pinning Henderson’s legs against the concrete pillar and sending the iron pipe clattering harmlessly across the polished floor.
The driver’s door flew open, and out stepped Arthur Vance, his handcuffs dangling loosely from one wrist, flanked by two armed federal marshals.

"It's over, Henderson," Arthur said coldly, his eyes burning with absolute, unstoppable triumph.
