Chapter 12: The Blacksmith's Ring

That evening, as the celebratory bonfire crackled on the rocky beach and acoustic fiddles played lively sea reels on the dock, Nathan led Clara out to the end of the old granite breakwater.

The tide was high, the dark water lapping gently against the stone pilings beneath a vast canopy of evening stars.

Nathan reached into his canvas jacket, pulling out a small, hand-carved box made of native Rhode Island white oak.

He placed it into Clara’s hands.

Clara opened the lid.

Inside lay a simple, elegant ring hand-forged from marine silicon-bronze, its surface displaying delicate, flowing water-like grain patterns, inlaid with a microscopic ribbon of native river copper that caught the starlight like a thread of gold.

""I forged this from a fastener salvaged from the original 1912 keel of *The Deliverance*,"" Nathan said, his voice deep, steady, and filled with unconditional devotion. ""It held together through a hundred winter gales without failing.""

He took her hand in his, his calloused fingers warm and strong against hers.

""I don't have corporate empires or society galas to give you, Clara. But I give you my hands, my work, and my sacred oath to stand beside you through every storm for as long as I draw breath.""

Clara looked down at the bronze band, then looked up into the honest, loving face of the man who had walked with her through the restoration of her life.

Her heart was completely, unshakeably full.

""Yes, Nathan,"" Clara whispered, tears of radiant peace shining on her cheeks. ""Always yes.""
