The morning air was crisp as Evelyn, Damon, and Claire stepped out of a sleek black town car outside the towering glass-and-steel headquarters of Mercer Holdings. The sleek, modern architecture mirrored Kieran’s cold, calculated demeanor. Evelyn wore her navy blue strapless dress from the boutique, deliberately reclaiming the symbol of their initial confrontation, layered beneath a sharp wool coat. Damon wore his charcoal-grey suit, while Claire carried a leather portfolio stuffed with forensic audit reports and Mrs. Shaw’s signed affidavit regarding the workplace extortion.
They did not wait for an appointment. Damon walked directly past the security desk, his authoritative presence silencing the lobby guards before they could object. They took the private express elevator straight to the penthouse boardroom on the forty-second floor.
The glass doors of the boardroom opened to reveal Kieran Mercer standing at the head of the mahogany conference table. He wore his signature black three-piece suit, his dark wavy hair neatly styled, his sharp jawline set in a triumphant smirk. He assumed they had come to sign away Evelyn’s voting shares.
""I see you received my message,"" Kieran said smoothly, checking his gold wristwatch. ""You have twenty-four hours left on the deadline, Evelyn. I trust you brought the signed resignation.""
Evelyn walked into the center of the room, her posture impeccable, her expressive hazel eyes locked onto Kieran’s smug expression. She did not flinch, nor did she rush her movements. She removed her wool coat, revealing the navy dress underneath, a visual reminder of the endurance that brought her here.
""We didn't bring a resignation, Kieran,"" Evelyn said, her voice steady and resonant in the large room.

Kieran’s smile vanished. The color drained slightly from his sharp features as his eyes darted to the documents.
