Chapter 13: Echoes of Grace

The morning after the dinner party, the penthouse was wonderfully quiet. Sunlight poured through the expansive windows, warming the hardwood floors. Evelyn stood by the kitchen island, wearing her dark brown satin button-down shirt, preparing breakfast while listening to the soft hum of the coffee maker.
Damon walked into the kitchen, his dark messy hair slightly tousled from sleep, wearing a casual navy sweater and dark trousers. He wrapped his arms around Evelyn from behind, pressing a gentle kiss to her temple.
""You're up early,"" Damon murmured, resting his chin on her shoulder.
""I slept soundly for the first time in as long as I can remember,"" Evelyn replied, leaning back into his embrace. ""It’s a strange and beautiful feeling to wake up without a single hidden dread waiting in my inbox.""
Damon turned her around so she was facing him, his expressive hazel eyes searching hers with deep affection. ""That’s because there’s nothing left to hide. Your past belongs to history now. Today belongs entirely to us.""
Later that afternoon, Evelyn decided to visit the bridal boutique again—not to fix a crisis, but to conclude a chapter on her own terms. She walked through the heavy glass doors into the bright luxury boutique with its glittering crystal chandeliers and immaculate rows of wedding dresses.
Mrs. Shaw—Helen—greeted her warmly near the front entrance, wearing her sleek low bun and a calm, professional smile.
""Welcome back, Mrs. Vance. Are we ready to finalize the gown alterations?"" Helen asked politely.

""We are,"" Evelyn smiled, looking across the polished marble floor to the exact spot where five-year-old Lily had collided with her days earlier. The minor scrape on her arm had faded to a nearly invisible silver line. There were no tears, no dramatic confrontations, and no lingering bitterness. Just the quiet realization that every unexpected twist in life has a purpose, testing our resilience and guiding us toward where we truly belong.
Helen led Evelyn back to the private consultation salon, where her stunning navy blue dress—and the ivory gown awaiting her final fitting—hung side by side in the soft light.
