Chapter 15 - The First Sunrise

The pale morning light spilled over the polished hood of the sedan as Ethan and Arthur walked down the wide stone steps of the Federal Trust Building. Clara stepped out of the driver's seat, her green evening dress catching the soft morning breeze, a relieved smile breaking across her tired face as she saw them approach unharmed.

Sarah opened the rear door of the car, stepping out onto the pavement with the six-year-old boy still resting sleepily against her shoulder. The little boy in the beige suit stirred, blinking open a pair of bright, unmistakable hazel eyes as he looked up at the rising sun.

"Is the bad man gone, Uncle Ethan?" the boy asked sleepily, rubbing his eyes with a tiny fist.

Ethan stopped right in front of them, kneeling down slightly so he was at eye level with the child. He reached out and gently straightened the boy's crooked silk bowtie.

"He's gone, buddy," Ethan said, a warm, genuine smile spreading across his face for the first time in as long as he could remember. "And nobody is ever going to bother this family again."

Arthur stood beside them, resting a comforting hand on Ethan's shoulder. Clara walked over, slipping her hand smoothly into Ethan's free palm, her fingers interlacing tightly with his. Sarah watched them all, her dark wavy hair framing a face finally free of the heavy shadows of the past.

As the sun crested the horizon, casting a brilliant golden glow over the towering skyscrapers of the city, Ethan realized that the fractured pieces of his life hadn't just been put back together—they had been forged into something infinitely stronger. The secrets were buried, the ghosts had found their rest, and the true legacy of the Vance family had finally begun.

They stood together on the pavement as a single, unbreakable unit, watching the new day dawn with absolute clarity, ready to face whatever future they would build with their own hands.
