Chapter 15 - The Final Verdict

The heavy steel bulkhead door of the bunker shrieked in protest as an industrial plasma torch bit into the reinforced hinges, sending a blinding spray of white-hot sparks cascading across the concrete floor.
David drew his last backup magazine, his hands steady despite the imminent death waiting outside. He looked over at Elena, who sat illuminated by the green glow of the computer monitor, her fingers flying across the mechanical keys with a speed and rhythm that defied human panic.
"Elena, stop," David said softly, his voice laced with profound regret. "You don't have enough bandwidth left to push the entire archive. They'll jam the transmission before it reaches The Hague."
"I'm not sending it to The Hague," Elena said without looking up, her eyes locked on the scrolling lines of code. "I'm pushing the entire decrypted data packet directly to every public news feed, social media network, and international financial exchange simultaneously via an unblockable decentralized satellite mesh."
Marcus raised his weapon toward the glowing door as the first hinge gave way with a deafening metallic crash. "She's right. It's too late for legal channels anyway. Burn the house down digitally."
With a final, triumphant keystroke, Elena hit the enter key. A massive data packet upload bar flashed across the screen, rocketing from zero to one hundred percent in three seconds flat, before broadcasting a digital shockwave across every connected device on the planet simultaneously.
The steel door burst inward in a cloud of smoke and fire. A heavily armed Vanguard operative stepped through the breach, raising his rifle to fire—and then paused, his tactical wrist-comm device buzzing violently with a high-priority emergency alert. Then, every other comms device in the room began to chime in unison. The operative stared down at his screen, where the entire global indictment against Vanguard Security was already trending as the number-one story worldwide.

The operative lowered his weapon slowly, looking from the screen back to Elena, knowing his entire syndicate had just been dismantled in a single keystroke.
Elena stood up slowly from the terminal, brushing the soot from her ruined silk blouse. She looked straight at David, then at Marcus, and finally walked past the stunned operatives toward the open door of the bunker, stepping out into the bright, uncompromising light of a brand-new day.
