Chapter 10 - The Boardroom Confrontation

The heavy steel door flew open, and Marcus shoved Eleanor through the threshold just as a volley of suppressed gunfire pinged harmlessly against the concrete frame behind them. They tumbled out into a wide, subterranean corridor that led directly toward the estate’s grand boardroom—the inner sanctum where the Vance family had dictated terms to the corporate world for decades.

The double doors of the boardroom were thrown wide open. Inside, the scene was a nightmare of corporate betrayal and calculated violence. David sat bound tightly to an executive leather armchair, his dark suit ruined by dust and sweat, a nasty bruise swelling across his jawline. Standing over him with a cold, triumphant smirk was Arthur, while Margaret paced near the head of the mahogany table, swirling a fresh glass of amber scotch.

"Well, well. Look who decided to crash the meeting," Margaret said, her voice dripping with condescension as Eleanor and Marcus rushed into the room. "I always knew you lacked survival instincts, Eleanor. Bringing a baby into a corporate war zone? Utterly pathetic."

David raised his head, his eyes locking onto Eleanor with a desperate mix of anguish and fierce love. "Amy... get out of here. It's a trap—"

"Shut your mouth, David," Arthur snapped, stepping forward and pressing the barrel of his silenced pistol firmly against David’s temple. "One more word and your son gets to grow up an orphan twice over."

Eleanor stopped dead in her tracks. Marcus slowly lowered his weapon, assessing the tactical disadvantage as three of Margaret’s armed private security guards emerged from the shadows of the boardroom pillars, their assault rifles leveled directly at his chest.

"Drop the weapon, Marcus," Margaret commanded smoothly, taking a slow sip of her scotch. "You're a professional. You know when the math doesn't work out in your favor."

Marcus looked sideways at Eleanor, his jaw tight. Slowly, deliberately, he let his sidearm clatter to the polished hardwood floor.

"Smart boy," Margaret smiled, her eyes gleaming with predatory delight. She walked over to David, reaching out to trace a manicured finger along the lapel of his ruined suit jacket. "You truly thought you could outmaneuver me, David? Everything you have—this house, this company, your very life—exists because I allowed it to. And now, it's time to settle the accounts permanently."

Arthur lowered the gun from David's head, turning toward a heavy floor safe built into the mahogany wall behind the boardroom table. He spun the heavy steel dial, muttering a combination under his breath as the thick door swung open to reveal the physical master flash drives containing every encrypted financial crime of the last decade.

As Arthur reached inside the safe to grab the drives, a sudden, blinding flash of light erupted from the hallway outside, followed by the blaring roar of tactical sirens and a voice echoing through the estate's intercom system.
