Chapter 10: The Trap Springs

Julian’s expression didn't change; his calm demeanor remained entirely unruffled. He took out his phone and pressed a button to patch the security feed to the living room’s flat screen.
Elena watched in terror as live security footage from her old apartment building played out. Two masked men had kicked in the door of apartment 4B, carrying cans of industrial accelerant.
However, instead of an empty apartment, they walked straight into eight heavily armed tactical officers from the State Police Special Response Team. Within three seconds, both intruders were pinned to the floor, handcuffed, and stripped of their weapons.
“They didn’t expect us to leave a surveillance detachment behind,” Julian said smoothly. “Those men were hired directly by Richard Vance. Their phones have already been seized, containing call logs, transfer receipts, and voice messages confirming Richard commissioned the attack.”
Elena collapsed onto the sofa, clutching Mia tightly against her chest. “He tried to kill us…”
“He tried to save himself,” Julian corrected, his tone turning razor-sharp. “And in doing so, he turned a white-collar financial fraud case into attempted murder, conspiracy, and racketeering. His bail has already been revoked. He will not see the outside of a maximum-security prison for the rest of his natural life.”
Julian knelt beside Elena, looking into the baby’s wide, curious hazel eyes. Mia reached out with a gurgle, grabbing Julian’s gold watchband. Julian chuckled softly, letting the baby inspect the gleaming metal.
“The danger is over, Elena,” Julian said gently. “From this moment forward, you and Mia are safe.”
Mrs. Gable walked into the room carrying a tray of hot tea, her face radiant with joy. “Looks like the angels were working overtime last night.”
May you like
“Not angels, Mrs. Gable,” Elena said, looking at Julian with profound gratitude. “Just a man who remembered what honor means.”
