Chapter 1: The Impossible Balance**

The silence hanging over the grand marble lobby of the Imperial Crown Hotel was so heavy you could hear the buzz of the chandelier lights overhead.
Arthur, the front desk clerk, gripped the edge of the mahogany counter, his knuckles turning pale white. His eyes were glued to the glowing screen.
*€127,650,892.75.*
Behind him, Mrs. Vance, the general manager who had spent the last ten minutes threatening to call the police, took a step closer. The haughty sneer on her face dissolved into a blank mask of sheer disbelief.
"Is this a joke, Arthur?" she hissed, her voice trembling just enough to betray her panic. "Did you plug in a simulator screen?"
"No, ma'am," Arthur whispered, his voice cracking. "It’s… it’s a verified sovereign titanium account. The funds are cleared and available."
Standing in front of them, twelve-year-old Leo didn’t flinch. His faded gray hoodie hung loose over his slight frame, and a streak of dried soot marked his cheekbone. In his worn, scuffed sneakers, he looked like a street kid seeking shelter from the autumn chill, not someone who commanded the GDP of a small island.
"I didn't come to cause trouble," Leo said softly, his hazel eyes completely calm. "I only need ten thousand dollars in cash. Right now."
Mrs. Vance swallowed hard, suddenly acutely aware of how aggressively she had grabbed the boy’s sleeve moments before. A guest holding a tier-one black card wasn't just wealthy; they were untouchable.
"Young man," she said, forcing a sickly sweet smile onto her rigid face. "Who authorized you to carry this card?"
Leo met her gaze without blinking. "The man who gave it to me told me never to speak his name. He only said that when the sirens start, this card would keep the promise."
Before Mrs. Vance could ask what promise he meant, the automatic glass doors of the lobby slid open with a sharp swoosh. Two men in crisp charcoal suits walked in, their sharp gazes sweeping the room before locking directly onto Leo.
Leo didn’t look frightened. Instead, a sad, knowing expression crossed his face. He gently tapped the marble counter with one finger.

"Please," Leo said, his voice dropping to a whisper. "Swipe the transaction quickly. Before they take the only thing I have left to save her."
