Chapter 3

The heavy mahogany double doors burst inward with a sharp splintering of antique wood and brushed brass hardware. Half a dozen federal agents in tactical black gear, their faces obscured by matte-black helmets and ballistic visors, flooded into the grand ballroom. Their weapons were held in low-ready positions, sweeping the perimeter with practiced, disciplined precision. The leader of the unit, a tall woman with sharp gray eyes and an insignia of command on her chest collar, stepped through the breach first.
"Federal Special Operations. Nobody move!" Captain Sarah Vance—no relation to the wealthy dynasty, a coincidence that had often amused federal investigators—scanned the room in a single, fluid motion. Her eyes locked instantly on the contrasting scene: Julian standing near the shattered glass table with blood on his temple, Beatrice weeping near the ottoman, and Elena standing firm by the marble pillar, protectively shielding the infant in her arms.
Julian immediately adopted a posture of aggrieved authority, smoothing the lapels of his ruined tuxedo with trembling fingers. "Thank God you're here, Captain. There's been a terrible misunderstanding. This woman—my estranged ward—suffered a severe psychological break. She assaulted my wife, destroyed our property, and initiated a false emergency signal."
Captain Vance did not lower her weapon immediately. Instead, she raised her left hand, signaling her team to hold their positions while she consulted the tactical tablet strapped to her forearm. "Mr. Julian Vance? And Mrs. Beatrice Vance?" She looked up, her gaze hardening. "We received a priority-one Omega transmission containing verified biometric audio, encrypted financial ledgers, and live spatial coordinates matching this exact room. That is not a false alarm."
Elena stepped forward, her voice carrying clearly across the cavernous space. "I am Elena Vance. I am the legal mother of the infant, Leo Vance. The digital package transmitted to your secure servers contains conclusive proof of systematic fraud, coercion, and an active conspiracy to misappropriate minor-trust assets valued at over forty million dollars."
Beatrice shrieked, pointing a manicured finger directly at Elena. "She's lying! She hacked our systems! She's mentally unstable and dangerous!"

Captain Vance motioned to two agents flanking her. "Secure Mr. and Mrs. Vance. Read them their rights. Ensure no digital devices on their persons are wiped or remotely accessed."
As the tactical agents moved forward to place industrial-grade zip-ties around Julian and Beatrice’s wrists, Julian cast one final, venomous look toward Elena. The veneer of polite society had completely vanished, replaced by a cold, feral hatred that chilled the air. Elena did not look away. She met his gaze with absolute resolve, knowing that the physical battle in the ballroom was over, but the war for her son’s survival had only just begun.
