Chapter 1: The Clash of Entitlement and Resolve

The air inside the banquet room of the Silver Spoon Diner was thick with the scent of stale coffee and expensive perfume. Elena Vance stood tall in her shimmering silver sequin one-shoulder dress, her diamond drop earrings catching the harsh fluorescent lights. Her dark hair was pulled into a sleek chignon, and her red lipstick seemed to bleed into the tension of the room. She stared down Maya, a young waitress with neatly braided hair, wearing a crisp white button-down shirt and a black vest. Elena's commanding presence filled the cramped space, yet Maya refused to flinch.
"You’re telling me no?" Elena demanded, her voice dripping with venom and disbelief. "That table has already been assigned."
Maya held a silver tray with two empty wine glasses, her breathing steady and controlled. She looked at Elena with a calm, unblinking gaze that only fueled the older woman’s rage.
"You’ll do what I tell you," Maya responded softly, her tone entirely devoid of fear.
The audacity of the reply struck Elena like a physical blow. Without another thought, she lashed out with her hand, violently knocking the silver tray out of Maya’s grasp. The tray clattered against the linoleum floor, and the two wine glasses shattered into a thousand glittering shards. Gasps echoed from the small crowd of onlookers gathered near the kitchen doors. Maya stood frozen for a brief second, tears welling in her eyes, but she quickly straightened her posture, confronting Elena with unwavering dignity.
"What did you say?" Maya whispered, her voice cutting through the ringing silence of the room.
She slowly raised a trembling hand and wiped away a single tear that had escaped down her cheek. Looking directly ahead with a terrifyingly calm and determined expression, Maya leaned in close to Elena’s ear and delivered a line that froze the blood in the socialite's veins.

"Oh, finally quitting?" Maya muttered coldly, her eyes locking onto Elena’s panicked gaze. "I’ll be standing on that stage in ten minutes. I’ll change my speech."
Elena stumbled backward, her mouth opening in silent horror as she realized exactly who Maya was.
