Chapter 1 - The Shattered Glass And The Cruel Accusation

The polished oak floorboards of the grand foyer bore the scars of a violent impact. A heavy black-framed picture lay in pieces, its protective glass shivered into countless dangerous shards that gleamed under the warm chandelier light. At the center of this wreckage stood seven-year-old Lily, her small white dress shoes planted carefully among the debris. She wore a pristine white sleeveless party dress, the fabric slightly rumpled from distress, and her blonde hair was pulled back in a neat half-up hairstyle secured by a delicate pearl clip. Clutched tightly against her chest was the empty wooden frame, the white academic achievement certificate inside crumpled from her desperate grip.
Arthur’s face was twisted in a mask of pure rage. The thirty-five-year-old man stood in his immaculate black tuxedo, the black bow tie slightly askew from his sudden physical agitation. He pointed a rigid, trembling finger directly down at the floor, his voice cutting through the tense silence of the upscale suburban home like a jagged blade.
"That's what happens when you raise a thief!" Arthur shouted, his veins bulging at his temples.
Elena, his wife, dropped instantly to her knees beside their weeping daughter. The thirty-five-year-old woman in the emerald green sleeveless dress ignored the risk of the glass, wrapping her arms protectively around Lily.
"Mommy... I didn't take it, Mommy!" Lily sobbed, her small shoulders shaking uncontrollably as she pressed her face into Elena’s shoulder.
Before Arthur could launch into another tirade, Evelyn, the seventy-year-old grandmother, stepped forward from the shadows of the hallway. Her short white hair caught the light, and her blue dress shimmered slightly as she moved with absolute authority. Evelyn firmly grabbed Arthur’s shoulder, her grip iron-clad, and scolded him sharply.
"Evelyn, stop making a scene," the grandmother warned, her voice low and steady.
Elena slowly lifted her tear-stained face away from her daughter and looked straight up toward the vaulted ceiling. Her eyes locked onto the small, dark dome of the security camera tucked neatly into the corner. A cold realization washed over her features, replacing her grief with a profound, terrifying certainty. She turned her gaze back to her husband, who stared down at her with a confused, open-mouthed expression.
"You really should have checked the CCTV," Elena whispered.
Arthur scoffed, crossing his arms defensively over his tuxedo jacket.
"I don't need a camera to know she's lying," Arthur snapped back, his voice rising again. "The award certificate was in my briefcase, and now it's missing. She was in my study."
"I only went in to fetch your dropped pen, Daddy," Lily whimpered, her voice barely a squeak.
Evelyn released her son’s shoulder and stepped between them, her eyes narrowing as she looked up at the recording device.
"Then let us watch the footage right now," Evelyn demanded, stepping toward the smart-home terminal on the wall.
May you like
Arthur hesitated, a flicker of doubt crossing his flushed face for the very first time. He reached for the wall tablet, but before his trembling fingers could touch the screen, the house's main power grid completely shut down with a heavy, metallic click.
