Chapter 1: The Blue Light Beneath the Chair

The heavy silence of the dining room shattered instantly when Clara pointed her trembling finger toward the floor. Her blue maid uniform rustled as she sobbed, the tears cutting fresh paths through the dust on her cheeks. Across the polished mahogany table, Eleanor sat motionless in her dark maroon sleeveless dress. Her dark reddish-brown hair was pulled back tightly, framing a face frozen in a terrifying, cold composure. Beside her, Rohesen stared in disbelief, his black tuxedo suddenly feeling too tight, cutting off his breath as the reality of the moment set in.

Clara’s voice cracked with raw panic as she looked between them. "Rohesen, get this girl out of here! Sir, look under your chair!" Her frantic gestures drew every ounce of oxygen from the room, leaving a vacuum of pure terror. Rohesen’s eyes darted downward, his body moving mechanically as he shifted his weight. He bent low, peering into the dim shadows beneath the heavy wooden seat.

There, secured firmly with strips of blue painter’s tape to the front leg, was a medical syringe. It was filled with a thick, ominous red liquid that seemed to pulse with an unnatural, eerie blue light emanating from a tiny micro-LED device wedged beside it. The juxtaposition of the glowing tech and the deadly contents hit Rohesen like a physical blow. He lunged backward, the wooden chair scraping loudly against the hardwood floor. He scrambled to his feet, his face contorted in a mask of incandescent rage.

"I’m calling the police right now, you tried to poison me!" Rohesen roared, his voice shaking with betrayal. Eleanor did not blink. She simply adjusted the fold of her maroon dress, her dark eyes reflecting neither guilt nor surprise.

Before Rohesen could reach for his phone, heavy footsteps echoed in the foyer. Two uniformed police officers, drawn by the commotion and Clara's earlier muffled cries, pushed through the dining room doors. They moved with practiced efficiency. Without a word of preamble, Officer Vance stepped behind Eleanor, pulling a pair of cold steel handcuffs from his belt.

Clara retreated into the shadows near the sideboard, her hands still trembling, clutching her white apron as the metallic click of the cuffs echoed ominously. Rohesen stood chest-heaving, staring down the woman he had shared a life with, wondering how a soul could become so deeply frozen. The trap had sprung, but the true depth of the deception was only just beginning to surface.
