Chapter 13 - Total Darkness

The luxury penthouse plunged into absolute, pitch-black darkness as the automated security blackout blinds slammed shut over every window and balcony door, cutting off all city lights. Shouts of alarm echoed from the federal agents and police officers as the room descended into complete chaos.
"Stay down! Nobody move! Someone find the manual breaker!" the federal agent shouted, his voice echoing sharply in the dark.
Leo felt a strong pair of hands grab him by the shoulders in the dark.
"Grandma?" Leo whispered, his voice trembling with panic as he tried to pull away.
"Hush, Leo, it's me," a frantic whisper replied right beside his ear. It wasn't Margaret's voice. It was David.
Before Leo could scream, a hand clamped gently but firmly over his mouth. In the confusion of the blackout, David had managed to slip away from the arresting officers, driven by sheer desperation to secure the flash drive before the feds restored power.
"I'm sorry, Leo, but I need the drive. It's the only way we survive," David whispered urgently into the dark, his fingers brushing against Leo's pajama pocket.
"David! Let go of my grandson!" Margaret’s voice yelled out blindly from a few feet away, the sound of her stumbling across the shattered crystal glass audible in the dark.
Leo bit down softly on his father's thumb in pure panic. David cursed under his breath, releasing his grip just as a blinding beam of a tactical flashlight cut through the darkness from the hallway.
"There he is! Grab him!" the federal agent bellowed.
A second later, the emergency backup generator kicked in, flooding the penthouse with harsh, flickering yellow light. David was pinned flat against the marble kitchen counter by two federal agents, his face pressed against the stone as the handcuffs ratcheted tightly around his wrists.
Margaret rushed over, pulling Leo back into her protective embrace and checking him over frantically. "Are you alright, baby? Did he hurt you?"
"I'm okay, Grandma," Leo sobbed quietly, clutching the toy-shaped flash drive so tightly in his pocket that the plastic edges dug into his palm.
Across the room, Marcus was already being hauled toward the private elevator in handcuffs, laughing maniacally as blood dripped from his lip. "Enjoy the fall, David! We built this empire on lies, and it's crushing us both!"
David didn't answer. He stared blankly at the floor, his face pale and defeated as the agents read him his rights and hauled him toward the elevator doors.
The living room was an absolute disaster zone—stained with orange juice, smeared with blood, littered with shattered crystal, and echoing with the wreckage of a shattered family. Margaret looked down at her young grandson, whose light blue pajamas were stained with the dust and trauma of a night that had changed their lives forever.
"It's over, Leo," Margaret whispered softly, a tear rolling down her cheek as she stroked his short blonde hair. "We're going home now."
She reached out to take his small hand, leading him toward the private elevator away from the ruins of the luxury penthouse.

But as the elevator doors slid shut behind them, the red emergency indicator light on the control panel suddenly flickered back on, flashing a cryptic warning code that none of them noticed.
