Chapter 11 - The Confession in the Crosshairs

The cold steel of the gun barrel pressed harder against the back of David’s neck, forcing him to keep his chin tilted upward. Marcus stood behind his brother, his expression a mask of absolute, calculated ruthlessness. Across the room, the second police officer was still locked in a brutal, exhausting physical struggle with the intruder in the hoodie, neither man able to gain the upper hand.
"Marcus, you're insane," David choked out, his voice shaking with a mixture of terror and impotent rage. "Putting a gun to your own brother's head? You'll never get away with this. The police are already on their way up!"
"The police are busy downstairs dealing with the false alarm I triggered on the ground floor," Marcus corrected smoothly, a mocking smile playing at the corners of his lips. "And by the time they realize this penthouse is the actual crime scene, you, your mother, and your little boy will be far away."
Margaret stepped forward slightly, shielding Leo behind her skirt, her eyes blazing with maternal fury. "You cowardly bastard, Marcus! Attacking a woman, terrorizing a child—for what? A stack of papers? Some corporate greed?"
Marcus slowly turned his gaze toward Margaret, his smile fading into a cold, dangerous glare. "You always did protect your golden boy, Margaret. You never saw what David was actually doing behind closed doors. He wasn't just hiding corporate accounts; he was bleeding the firm dry to fund his offshore accounts—accounts tied directly to illegal shell companies."
David flinched, his eyes darting frantically toward the floor. "That's a lie! Marcus, you're twisting everything!"
"Am I?" Marcus challenged, tightening his grip on the weapon. "Clara found the ledger last week. She realized what he was doing, and she threatened to go to the feds herself. That's why he tied her up, David. Not me. He staged the whole thing to frame me!"
Margaret gasped, looking sharply from Marcus to her son. "David? Is that true? Did you do this to your own wife?"
David swallowed hard, sweat dripping down his forehead as he stared at the floor. "He's lying, Ma! He helped me set up the accounts! He wanted a bigger cut, and when I refused, he snapped!"
The tension in the room snapped like a stretched rubber band. The intruder in the hoodie suddenly managed to shove the police officer away, scrambling across the floor toward the open balcony doors.
"Stop right there!" the officer roared, diving after him, but the intruder vaulted over the low railing into the night air.
A collective gasp echoed through the room. Before anyone could reach the balcony, a loud, heavy thud resounded from the alley far below, followed by the crunch of metal.
Marcus didn't even flinch at the sound. He simply chuckled darkly, pressing the gun deeper into David's neck.

"Now," Marcus whispered, his eyes locking onto Margaret. "Where is the flash drive, Margaret? Hand it over, or nobody leaves this room alive."
