Chapter 5: The Expulsion

The silence in the grand penthouse foyer grew suffocating as Julian stared at his blank phone screen, his mind racing through a dozen disastrous scenarios. Clara stepped out from the elevator alcove, her face hardened by self-preservation, realizing that aligning with Julian was suddenly a massive financial and social liability. "Julian," Clara said sharply, her voice losing its previous seductive warmth. "I think I need to call a cab." She didn't wait for his permission or his comfort; she practically dived back into the open elevator car, pressing the lobby button with frantic persistence until the heavy doors slid shut, sealing her away from the wreckage of the affair. Julian was left entirely alone with his wife and the baby, trapped in a nightmare of his own making. Elena adjusted little Leo, who stirred slightly at the sudden motion before settling back into a deep, peaceful sleep. She turned her back on Julian and walked toward the master hallway, her footsteps echoing softly against the hardwood floors. "Wait, Elena, please," Julian pleaded, his voice breaking as he hurried after her, shedding every shred of his corporate dignity. "Let me explain about Clara. It wasn't what it looked like. We were just... we were working late on the merger." Elena stopped at the entrance of the kitchen without turning around. Her posture was rigidly controlled, radiating a quiet strength that made Julian feel microscopic. "You have exactly twenty minutes to pack a single suitcase," Elena said calmly, her voice carrying easily down the hallway. "The smart locks on this floor will deregister your biometrics at precisely nine-thirty. Any belongings left behind will be donated to charity by noon." Julian stared at her rigid back, his chest heaving with unspent panic. He opened his mouth to argue, to threaten legal action, to remind her of their prenuptial agreements, but he knew the Vanguard legal team was already reviewing those documents. He was entirely powerless.
