Chapter 6

Clara stood up slowly, walking over to the large window to look out at the twinkling lights of the metropolis below. The reflection of the boardroom lights cast a ghostly double image of her face against the dark glass. She thought of how close she had come to drinking that poisoned champagne, how easily her life could have been snuffed out amid the clinking glasses and polite applause of people who only cared about their social standing. The anger she had felt initially had transformed into a cold, unbreakable steel. She would not remain a victim of boardroom plots and treacherous romances.
“Julian thinks he can hide behind his lawyers and cut a deal,” Clara said softly, turning back to face her father and the assembled legal team. “He thinks because he’s behind bars now, the threat is neutralized. But Apex Global is still out there. Richard Thorne is still sitting in his penthouse, sipping his own champagne, believing he won.”
Marcus nodded slowly, a dark smile touching the corners of his mouth. He had built Sterling Holdings from a two-man contracting firm into an international powerhouse through ruthlessness and strategic brilliance, qualities he now saw vividly reflected in his daughter’s eyes.
“Richard Thorne is a cautious man, Clara,” Marcus noted. “He used Julian as a blunt instrument because he didn't want to get his own hands dirty. Now that Julian has failed and the video is in our possession, Thorne is likely trying to sever all ties and destroy his paper trail.”
“Which is why we need to move faster than they can cover their tracks,” Eleanor interjected, surprising everyone in the room. All eyes turned instantly to the young woman sitting quietly in the corner. She flushed slightly under the heavy gaze of billionaires and corporate attorneys, but she held her ground. “Excuse me, Mr. Sterling, but when Julian dropped the powder into the glass, he wasn't just using any vial. I noticed the logo stamped on the side of the glass container. It was a proprietary medical compound manufactured exclusively by a subsidiary of Apex Global.”
Arthur Vance blinked in surprise, rapidly tapping away on his laptop keyboard. “Are you certain of that, Eleanor? A medical compound?”
May you like
“Positive,” Eleanor nodded firmly. “My mother is a retired pharmaceutical researcher. I grew up around labs and chemical labeling. That specific blue triangular stamp denotes an experimental neurotoxin designed to mimic sudden cardiac arrest without leaving traditional trace residues in routine autopsies.”
A heavy hush fell over the boardroom. The sophistication of the crime was staggering, elevating it from a domestic murder plot to a chilling act of corporate terrorism.
