""Logan! Do something!"" Evelyn shrieked, her voice cracking as she shoved the screen into her husband’s face. ""He drained the account! Every single cent of the house stipend and the dividend reserve is gone! How could he do that? That was our money!""
Logan stared at the glowing screen, his face drained of color. He looked from the phone to the heavy oak front door, which still held the lingering chill of the autumn draft. For the first time in years, the reality of his father’s silence hit him like a physical blow. The $800,000 hadn't been a gift or a passive family fund. It was the operating capital Arthur had deposited into a joint account under strict contractual terms: that Logan would maintain the family foundation and run Vance Manufacturing with ethical integrity.
""It wasn't our money, Evelyn,"" Logan said quietly, his voice barely audible over the ticking of the grandfather clock in the hall.
""What are you talking about?"" she spat, pacing furiously on the polished marble floor. ""You are his only son! Everything he has belongs to you by right! Call the police! Report him for theft!""
""Report my father?"" Logan let out a bitter, lifeless laugh. ""He created the trust. He was the sole grantor. We were just authorized trustees contingent on... on honoring his terms. I signed the clause three years ago.""
""What clause?!"" Evelyn demanded, her posture stiffening.

Evelyn stood motionless, the harsh sunlight catching the diamond on her ring—a ring bought with funds Arthur had quietly underwritten. The house, grand and silent, suddenly felt less like a palace and more like an empty shell.
