Chapter 13: Shadows of the Past
Life has a way of testing newfound strength. A month later, as Vance Manufacturing prepared to launch its new line of eco-friendly industrial engines, a sudden legal notice arrived from the city’s high-profile law firms.
Evelyn, acting through aggressive representation, had filed a claim against Logan’s personal equity share in the company, demanding a full liquidation payout based on the company’s inflated valuation from three years prior. Her argument was that Logan had intentionally lowered his executive earnings and transferred corporate assets to avoid a fair divorce settlement.
The board called an urgent meeting. The atmospheric pressure in the executive suite was tense, but Logan walked into the room with absolute composure.
""She wants five million dollars,"" Samuel Vance said, sliding the legal document across the desk. ""If we fight this in court, it could drag out for eighteen months, drain our public confidence, and stall the launch of the new engine line.""
The board members looked nervously at Logan. Three years ago, Logan would have panicked, shouted at his lawyers, or compromised the company’s stability to protect his personal image.
Now, Logan simply picked up the document, read through the demands calmly, and looked up at his uncle.
""We don't fight her in court, Uncle Samuel,"" Logan said steadily.
""What do you mean?"" Samuel asked, surprised. ""Are you going to pay her?""
""No,"" Logan replied calmly. ""We open our full accounting books to the court auditor. Every single penny of profit-sharing, every salary reduction, every reinvestment into worker health funds. We show that every decision made was done to save fifteen hundred jobs and restore real operational health to this firm. Let a jury see what true value looks like.""

He looked around the room at the directors. ""If standing up for our workers means my personal share is liquidated down to zero, then let it be zero. I can live on my manager’s salary. But Vance Manufacturing will not compromise its integrity again.""
The board fell completely silent. For the first time, every director in the room realized that Logan Vance was no longer just Arthur’s son—he had become a leader in his own right.
