Chapter 15

The heavy steel vault door slid open with a dramatic hiss, releasing a gust of stale air that had been trapped underground for decades. Arthur stepped forward, his eyes gleaming with triumphant greed as he reached his hand inside the open compartment.

"Magnificent," Arthur whispered, his voice trembling slightly as his fingers brushed against the stacks of physical bearer bonds and digital drive arrays stored within. "After all these years, the entire empire is finally—"

Before he could finish his sentence, the low, rhythmic thrumming of helicopter blades shattered the quiet night air above the Westport estate. Within seconds, the blinding spotlights of multiple tactical helicopters pierced through the skylights of the bunker, casting a glaring, inescapable white illumination across the entire room.

At the same time, the reinforced steel doors of the bunker blew inward with a deafening crash as federal tactical teams flooded the room, their weapons raised and shouting clear, coordinated commands.

"Federal agents! Nobody move! Drop your weapons!"

Arthur spun around in sheer panic, lunging toward his jacket to grab a hidden firearm, but before his fingers could wrap around the grip, a tactical officer tackled him hard to the concrete floor, slamming the heavy steel cuffs onto his wrists.

The two armed guards standing beside Valeria dropped their weapons instantly, raising their hands behind their heads and sinking to their knees as officers swarmed around them.

Valeria stood frozen in the center of the chaos, her burgundy dress dusted with a light layer of ancient underground soot, still clutching her cream handbag tightly against her chest. She watched calmly as Arthur was hauled away, screaming curses at the ceiling while the federal agents secured the vault.

A moment later, Julian walked through the shattered doorway, rubbing his wrists where the ropes had bound him, looking slightly bruised but completely unharmed. He hurried across the room toward Valeria, stopping a few feet away with a deeply apologetic expression in his eyes.

"Valeria," Julian said softly. "Are you okay?"

Valeria looked at him, her gaze entirely devoid of the anger and panic that had consumed her just hours ago. She felt strangely light, as if a massive, suffocating weight had finally been lifted from her shoulders.

"The override code I triggered when I placed my hand on the scanner," Valeria said quietly, her voice steady and clear. "It wasn't for the money, was it? It was your agency's direct line to freeze every single asset Arthur and my mother owned."

Julian nodded slowly, offering a faint, respectful smile. "Your mother knew she was going down tonight, Valeria. She arranged the entire setup. She forced Arthur out into the open so we could trap him once and for all. The syndicate is finished. Completely dismantled."

Valeria looked down at the cream handbag in her hand. She unzipped it, pulled out the small flash drive, and dropped it onto the floor right at Julian’s feet.

"Tell the FBI they can have the archive," Valeria said, turning her back on the vault and walking slowly toward the exit of the bunker. "Tell them my mother can keep her secrets, and my ex-husband can keep his money."

As she walked out of the underground bunker and stepped out into the crisp, cool air of the Westport estate, the morning sun finally broke over the horizon, casting a warm, golden glow across the manicured lawn. Valeria took a deep, natural breath of the fresh morning air, feeling complete
