Chapter 13 - The Protocol Omega

The morning sun finally broke through the heavy gray clouds, casting a weak, golden hue over the lavish facade of the mansion as Daniel’s SUV pulled up the grand driveway. Beside him in the passenger seat, Clara sat in silence, holding a steaming cup of coffee provided by the tactical unit, her eyes fixed on the towering oak front doors. In the backseat, Detective Miller tapped away furiously on his encrypted tablet, tracking the digital footprints of Protocol Omega.

“The shell corporation draining your corporate accounts is registered out of the Cayman Islands,” Miller said without looking up from his screen. “The wire transfers started automated execution twenty minutes ago, right as we cuffed Robert at the pier. Whoever authorized this knew the arrest was coming and pulled the trigger early.”

“Who is the registered beneficial owner of the shell corporation?” Daniel asked, cutting straight to the point as he parked the vehicle near the grand entrance.

Miller stopped typing. He looked up slowly from the tablet, meeting Daniel’s gaze with a heavy, sympathetic expression. “The corporate registry lists the primary shareholder as an irrevocable trust managed by your executive vice president... Thomas Vance.”

Daniel’s breath caught in his throat. Thomas Vance—his younger brother, the man he had raised after their parents passed away, the man he had appointed as second-in-command of the entire corporate empire out of absolute familial trust.

“No,” Clara whispered, shaking her head in sheer disbelief. “Thomas? But he helped me hide my car the night I fled. He pretended to be my ally.”

“He was playing both sides,” Daniel said, his voice dropping into a dangerous, icy register as he shoved the car door open and stepped out into the crisp morning air. “He helped you escape just enough to keep you hidden while he used your absence to frame you, manipulate Victoria, and position himself to inherit everything once Robert and Victoria tore each other apart.”

Daniel marched up the stone steps of the mansion, pulling the heavy mahogany double doors open with a sharp tug. The grand hallway was empty, bathed in the quiet, peaceful light of dawn, entirely unaware of the storm about to break over its marble floors.

“Secure the perimeter!” Detective Miller ordered into his radio, motioning for the tactical officers to fan out across the ground floor and stairwells. “Check the executive suites on the second floor. Thomas Vance may still be on the premises.”

Daniel walked past the massive family portrait, ignoring its gaze entirely, and strode purposefully toward the private executive study at the end of the eastern corridor. The heavy oak door was slightly ajar, a faint sliver of warm light spilling out onto the polished hallway floor.

He slowed his pace, pulling his Glock 17 from his holster once again. With a sharp kick of his foot, he swung the study door wide open.

Sitting comfortably behind Daniel’s executive desk, sipping a glass of aged bourbon from the crystal decanter, sat Thomas Vance. He wore a tailored gray three-piece suit, his blonde hair neatly combed, looking as though he were preparing for a routine board meeting rather than the collapse of a criminal empire.

“Well, brother,” Thomas said smoothly, swirling the amber liquid in his glass without looking up. “I was wondering when you’d finally connect the dots. Took you long enough.”
