Six months later, in the warm green spring of Ohio, the Miller backyard was officially dedicated as *The Frank Miller Memorial Timber Workshop*.
With the surplus funds from their county contracts, Amanda and David expanded the shop, installing three additional woodworking benches, a solar-assisted lumber drying kiln, and a small community drafting classroom.
The workshop offered free evening apprenticeships to young people from local vocational schools and working-class families across the county, teaching traditional timber framing, fine furniture joinery, and sustainable forestry management.
Amanda was appointed lead instructor of design and finishing.
She wore her canvas apron every day, her hair tied back, her hands covered in natural walnut stain and beeswax.
She no longer designed ephemeral fashion collections for wealthy socialites in New York.
She designed solid-oak library tables for rural elementary schools, rocking chairs for maternity clinics, and church pews that were built to last for two hundred years.
Every piece of furniture that left the shop bore a small, hand-stamped brass medallion set into the underside of the wood:
