Chapter 9

Despite the operational triumphs, the legal war outside the hotel walls was intensifying. Victoria’s high-priced defense attorney, Harrison, filed an emergency injunction late Thursday night, claiming that Elena’s takeover of the administrative terminals constituted an illegal digital seizure and demanding a court-mandated freeze on all corporate accounts until a formal trial could determine asset ownership.

Elena sat in her father’s office late into the night, the amber city lights casting long patterns across the desk as she reviewed the court motion with her new legal counsel, Sarah Chen, a sharp corporate litigator specializing in corporate restoration and fraud recovery. Sarah rubbed her temples, exhausted from hours of drafting counter-motions.

"He's playing procedural tennis, Elena," Sarah said, pointing at a highlighted paragraph on her tablet. "Harrison knows he can't win on the merits of the forged power of attorney, so he’s trying to tie us up in injunction hearings for months. If the accounts stay frozen, payroll for next week is in jeopardy, and the suppliers will start pulling their contracts."

"He wants to suffocate us slowly so we agree to a settlement where Victoria walks away with a golden parachute," Elena said, her voice calm as she traced the edge of the silver smartphone lying beside her notebook. "He's banking on the idea that I'm too exhausted from my recovery to fight a protracted legal battle in the public eye."

"Are you?" Sarah asked gently, looking at her client with professional concern. "You don't have to carry this entire burden alone. We can compromise on a reduced asset recovery if it means ending the media circus this week."

"No," Elena replied without a second of hesitation. "Compromising with someone who stole my life and tried to erase my father's legacy isn't negotiation; it's surrender. We fight every motion, and we release the medical records proving the involuntary commitment directly to the public record tomorrow morning."

Sarah nodded slowly, a fierce smile breaking through her exhaustion. "Consider it done. I'll have the public relations team prepare the press release for dawn. Let's see how Harrison spins a falsified psychiatric hold to a jury of working-class citizens."

As Sarah packed her briefcase and left for the night, Elena remained alone in the cavernous office. She walked over to the floor-to-ceiling window, looking down at the flashing lights of police cruisers and media vans still staked out on the street below. She touched the slight fading bruise on her cheek, remembering the exact moment Victoria had shoved her to the floor in the grand lobby. That push had been meant to break her spirit permanently; instead, it had served as the alarm bell that woke her up for good.
