Chapter 10

The courtroom of the Manhattan Superior Court was packed to capacity on Monday morning. Photographers crowded the hallways, and reporters jostled for position as Victoria Vance—dressed in a somber navy pantsuit instead of her signature white evening wear—walked through the double doors, flanked by Harrison and two junior associates. Her face was pale, devoid of the arrogant confidence she had projected in the hotel lobby, but her eyes retained a cold, calculating edge.

Elena entered shortly after, wearing a sharply tailored charcoal suit over her dark gray tank top—a deliberate nod to her journey from the marble floor to the witness stand. She walked with a steady, unhurried gait, her head held high, acknowledging Detective Miller and Sarah Chen with calm, reassuring nods.

Judge Henderson, a stern jurist with decades on the bench, rapped his gavel once to quiet the restless murmurs of the gallery. "We are here to address the emergency injunction filed by the defense regarding asset control of the Grand Horizon estate," Judge Henderson announced, his voice echoing off the oak paneling. "Before we hear oral arguments, the court has received and reviewed the supplemental disclosures filed by the plaintiff at dawn regarding medical records and corporate transfers."

Harrison immediately leaped to his feet, his face flushed with indignation. "Your Honor, objection! Those medical disclosures were submitted outside the standard discovery window and represent an unwarranted invasion of privacy into private health matters!"

"Mr. Harrison," Judge Henderson interrupted coolly, peering over his reading glasses. "The medical records in question pertain directly to the alleged voluntary transfer of executive shares signed while the plaintiff was medically incapacitated under your client's direct supervision. Privacy arguments tend to lose their legal footing when used to mask potential felony kidnapping and forgery."

A collective murmur rippled through the courtroom gallery. Victoria flinched, her hands gripping the edge of the defense table so tightly her knuckles turned white. Harrison swallowed hard, slowly lowering himself back into his leather chair as the judge motioned for Sarah Chen to present her case.

Sarah walked to the podium, placing the silver smartphone and the certified digital ledger archives before the microphone. With surgical precision, she outlined the timeline of the forged power of attorney, presenting the cryptographic audit logs that proved every signature attributed to Elena during her exile had been digitally manufactured from an IP address registered to Victoria’s personal residence. The evidence was overwhelming, comprehensive, and utterly impossible to spin away with clever rhetoric.

When Sarah finished, Judge Henderson did not even bother asking the defense for a closing rebuttal. He looked straight at Victoria, his expression grim and unimpressed. "The motion for an injunction is denied with prejudice. Furthermore, this court is formally expanding the scope of the criminal investigation to include charges of grand larceny, identity theft, and corporate fraud. Bail is revoked. Take the defendant into custody."
