Chapter 11: The Public Unmasking

Eleanor did not flinch. Instead, she gently removed her hand from his arm, stepping forward into the center of the foyer where the white pillars caught the overhead chandelier light. The chatter among the elite guests died down completely, replaced by an expectant, heavy silence. Cameras flashed from the press corps stationed near the entrance doors, capturing every detail of the high-society drama unfolding in real time.

"Thank you all for coming," Eleanor began, her voice steady, resonant, and entirely devoid of the fragility Julian had expected. "Tonight is indeed a night of transparency. For months, my husband Julian Vance has presented himself as a paragon of fiscal responsibility, ethics, and family values. But leadership requires absolute honesty—starting from within our own home."

Julian moved quickly, stepping into her field of vision with a strained, manic laugh. "My wife is under a severe medical strain, ladies and gentlemen. Please, let's escort her to the drawing-room—"

"Quiet, Julian," Eleanor said, her tone snapping with such authority that the seasoned trial attorney actually froze in his tracks.

From the edge of the foyer, Clara stepped forward, holding the slim leather folder. She did not hand it to Eleanor; instead, she opened it and projected the digital files onto the large smart-screen monitor mounted on the white wall—the exact same screen that had displayed the security footage days earlier. Now, the screen illuminated brilliant, undeniable spreadsheets of offshore wire transfers, shell company registrations, and encrypted chat transcripts between Julian Vance and lobbyist Marcus Vance.

Murps of shock rippled through the gathered crowd of diplomats and donors. Several prominent committee members stepped back as the financial fraud played out in glaring, high-definition color on the wall.

"These documents," Eleanor continued, her gaze fixed steadily on her husband's pale, sweating face, "detail over two million dollars in illicit campaign contributions funneled through offshore shell accounts registered in my name without my knowledge or consent. When I began asking questions, my husband staged a fake theft in this very foyer, framing an innocent employee to cover his tracks and gaslighting me into believing I was losing my mind."
