CHAPTER 15: THE GAZE OF PEACE

That evening, as the orange sun sank beneath the coastal horizon, Marco walked up the wooden porch steps carrying two cups of warm apple cider.
Lily looked up from her painting, her face beaming with genuine laughter.
"Look, Marco!" she said, pointing proudly at her canvas. "I painted our boat. And I put a seagull on top so it can look at the whole world."
Marco sat down beside her, handing her a cup and admiring the painting with a warm smile. "Does the seagull like what it sees?"
Lily paused, looking out over the endless, shimmering expanse of the quiet ocean. The dark shadows of the nursery, the terrifying red diode inside the porcelain doll, and the fear that once paralyzed her young heart were completely gone—replaced by the steady, unshakeable warmth of the man sitting beside her.

Marco wrapped his arm around her shoulders, looking out into the twilight. The glass eyes were broken forever; all that remained was the clear, peaceful vision of a tomorrow they had earned together.
