Chapter 14: The Return to Gate 4B
One year after his homecoming, Daniel, Clara, and Maya found themselves back at the airport terminal. They weren't there to catch a flight; they were there to welcome home Specialist Torres, a young private from Daniel’s old platoon.
Gate 4B looked identical to the day Daniel had landed—the same glossy floors, the blue chairs, the bustling passengers rushing past.
When Torres emerged through the security doors, exhausted and carrying his heavy rucksack, his wife and infant son ran to meet him. Torres dropped his bag and fell to his knees on the polished floor, weeping with joy.
Daniel stood by the glass railing, watching the reunion. Maya tugged at his pant leg, and he lifted her easily onto his shoulders.
