Chapter 5: House of Cards

Three months passed. In the sleek boardrooms of New York, Julian and Victoria moved quickly to liquidate the assets of the Vance Oceanic Foundation. They planned to sell the coastline sanctuary to commercial real estate developers, turning pristine marine habitat into luxury resorts.

Julian assumed the title of sole executor, wearing expensive tailored suits paid for by money he hadn't earned. But beneath the polished surface, paranoia began to gnaw at him. Every time he looked at the ocean, he saw those glowing eyes in the dark water.

Victoria, too, was spiraling. The memory of the ocean titan rising from the deep haunted her nights. She began drinking heavily, terrified that Evelyn’s ghost was watching them.

“She’s gone, Victoria!” Julian snapped one evening in their penthouse. “The ocean took her. Stop acting like a coward.”

He didn't realize that the real danger wasn't a ghost—it was the living truth waiting in the shadows.
