“What did you do?!” Julian’s voice cracked over the sound of crashing waves. His aviator sunglasses slipped down his nose as his arrogant composure shattered.
Victoria stumbled backward on the polished teak deck, spilling her glass of champagne. “Julian, get us out of here! Now!”
Evelyn floated supported by the gentle giant, her voice carrying across the water with quiet, unwavering strength. “My father knew money corrupts men like you, Julian. He built technology to safeguard the ocean—and to protect his family.”

Proteus slammed his massive tail against the water, sending a wall of spray over the yacht’s bow. The engine sputtered and stalled as the acoustic pulse interfered with the vessel’s electrical systems. Julian fell to his knees, paralyzed by the sudden realization that nature itself had taken Evelyn’s side.
Yet Evelyn did not order the beast to attack. Looking down at her belly, feeling the kick of her unborn child, she knew vengeance through violence would destroy her own humanity. She signaled Proteus to withdraw, leaving the stranded yacht drifting into the dark horizon.
