Chapter 12

The wall monitor behind the marshal abruptly flickered, shifting from the encrypted financial ledger to a live global broadcast mosaic. Hundreds of small video feeds lined the screen, showing massive crowds gathered in public squares from New York to London, Tokyo to Sydney, all holding up signs bearing the hashtag #SaveLeoAndLily.
Leo dropped his spoon into his bowl, staring at the colossal display in utter disbelief.
“Are... are all those people looking at us?” Leo whispered, his voice barely audible in the quiet room.
Marcus stepped forward, placing a gentle hand on his nephew’s messy light brown hair.
“They are, Leo. Because your courage at that hospital desk reminded the whole world what it means to fight for family.”
Clara wiped a tear from her cheek, watching the live chat ticker scrolling beside the mosaic at blinding speed—millions of messages offering housing, legal protection, financial support, and unwavering solidarity.
Suddenly, the secure terminal chimed with an incoming priority secure call. A senior intelligence officer tapped the accept button, projecting a life-sized holographic interface onto the center of the room.
The face of the United States Attorney General materialized on screen, his expression grave and resolute under the glaring studio lights.
“Mr. Marcus Vance, Mr. Thomas Vance, and to the children,” the Attorney General spoke, his voice echoing authoritatively through the bunker. “I am speaking to you live from the national command center in Washington, D.C. The Department of Justice has reviewed the decrypted ledger transmitted from your drive.”
Thomas stepped closer to the projection, his posture rigid.
“And what is your verdict, General? Are you going to sweep this under the rug like you did three years ago?”
The Attorney General shook his head firmly, looking directly into the camera lens that broadcasted his face to the entire planet.
“No, Mr. Vance. We cannot sweep it under the rug, because the entire world is watching every keystroke we make right now. Based on the evidence provided by your family and verified by millions of global citizens online, I have just signed federal arrest warrants for every corrupt official named in that ledger.”
A cheer erupted outside the secure medical bunker as guards and staff members listening through the intercom realized the scale of the victory.
Leo looked up at his father, a bright, hopeful smile finally breaking through the weariness on his face.
“Dad... does this mean we don't have to run anymore?” Leo asked, his hazel eyes shining with unshed tears of joy.
Thomas knelt down, pulling both Leo and Lily—who was slowly waking up from her nap—into a fierce, unbroken embrace.

“We’re never running again, son. We’re finally safe.”
As the family held each other in the warm glow of the medical suite, the broadcast monitor in the corner suddenly cut to a breaking news alert from an undisclosed location outside the federal bunker, revealing an unexpected figure stepping out of a black unmarked van.
