Chapter 11

Deep within the subterranean medical wing of the secure federal bunker, the sterile white lights hummed with a quiet, steady rhythm. Lily rested peacefully on an automated recovery bed, her breathing regular as the post-operative monitors blinked in soft green harmony. Leo sat in a comfortable chair beside her bed, holding her small hand while eating a warm bowl of soup provided by the facility staff.

Across the room, Thomas and Marcus stood by a secure wall monitor, reviewing the digital ledger Marcus had pulled from the flash drive.

“It’s all here,” Thomas said quietly, pointing a finger at a scrolling column of financial transactions and encrypted communications. “Every bribe, every shell company, every name of the federal judges on the cartel’s payroll.”

Marcus scrolled down to the bottom of the document, his eyes locking onto a specific signature that made his blood run cold.

“Wait... Thomas, look at this authorization signature from three years ago. This isn't just a cartel operation. This order originated from inside the Department of Justice itself.”

Before Thomas could answer, the heavy steel door of the medical suite slid open. Federal Marshal Vance walked in, accompanied by two senior intelligence officers whose uniforms bore no name tags or insignia.

“Mr. Vance, Mr. Vance,” the marshal said, his tone entirely changed—now laced with an urgent, desperate deference. “We’ve just decrypted the emergency broadcast data packet your corporate network pushed out during the overpass ambush.”

Marcus turned away from the monitor, crossing his arms defensively.

“And?”

The marshal swallowed hard, sliding a printed memo onto the counter.

“The video clip your nurse Clara uploaded from the hospital reception desk... it didn't just go viral locally. Because of the algorithmic anomalies triggered by the cartel’s signal jammers, the post was automatically mirrored across every major international news network simultaneously.”

Clara, who had just walked into the room with a tray of fresh medical supplies, stopped dead in her tracks.

“What are you saying?” Clara asked, her voice trembling slightly.

The marshal looked directly at Leo, who stared back with those big, piercing hazel eyes.

“I’m saying that right now, live on television across one hundred and twenty countries, over three hundred million people are watching this room through the security webcam feed we were forced to leave active by federal mandate.”
