Chapter 9: The Boardroom Ultimatum

The morning board meeting of Vance Industries was the most tense gathering in the company’s history. The polished mahogany table was flanked by senior executives, legal counsel, and representatives from major institutional shareholders. Eleanor sat near the center, having recovered her icy exterior, though her hands trembled slightly beneath the table. She had called this emergency session to oust Julian for embezzlement and financial misconduct.
At the head of the table sat Julian, calm, collected, and wearing a tailored charcoal suit that commanded immediate attention. Beside him, seated quietly in an observer's chair, was Clara. Dressed in a simple, elegant navy maternity dress with no jewelry save for her silver band, she represented the living embodiment of the sins the board had spent decades trying to bury.
"Ladies and gentlemen," Eleanor began, standing up to address the room with practiced theatricality. "We are here today to address a severe breach of corporate governance. My husband, Julian Vance, has been utilizing company funds to acquire private properties and conceal personal liabilities, specifically regarding an unauthorized individual living on Vance premises."
She clicked a remote, projecting financial spreadsheets onto the large screen behind the board. The numbers looked damning, painting a picture of systematic embezzlement.
When she finished her speech, a murmur rippled through the room. Several board members looked skeptically at Julian, whispering amongst themselves.
Julian did not rush to defend himself. He simply stood up, buttoned his jacket, and looked directly at the senior partner, Arthur Sterling—no relation to Clara, but a veteran executive who valued integrity above all.
"Eleanor’s presentation is thorough," Julian said, his deep voice carrying effortlessly across the room. "Unfortunately for her, it relies on falsified shell company logs from the Cayman Islands."
Julian pressed a button on his own remote. The screen shifted, displaying a high-resolution video file—the recording Marcus had captured the previous night in the third-floor suite, showing Eleanor attempting to steal the Sterling estate deed while confessing to corporate sabotage.

The room fell into absolute silence. Eleanor stared at the screen in sheer horror, her mouth slightly open as her own voice echoed through the boardroom speakers, confessing to financial manipulation and extortion.
"Furthermore," Julian continued, his gaze locking onto his wife, "Marcus has submitted full forensic backups of the proxy accounts Eleanor used to funnel funds out of the company to her own offshore accounts. Effective immediately, legal counsel is filing charges of corporate fraud, extortion, and attempted asset theft against Eleanor Vance."
