Chapter 6: Confrontation in the Solarium

The glass-paneled solarium was bathed in harsh midday sunlight, amplifying the humidity and the thick scent of blooming orchids. Eleanor stood beside a wrought-iron table, her arms crossed over her emerald suit jacket, tapping a stiletto heel against the tiled floor. When Clara entered, looking pale but resolute with the white bandage still prominent on her forehead, Eleanor’s lips curled into a disdainful smile.
"Sit down, Clara," Eleanor instructed, gesturing to a wicker chair. "Let's dispense with the theatrics. You are a clever girl, sneaking into this house under an assumed middle name to get close to my husband. But your little game is over."
Clara remained standing, holding her ground near the arched doorway. "I didn't sneak in, Mrs. Vance. I was hired through standard agency protocols. If there was an issue with my identity, your human resources department failed to flag it."
"Spare me the bureaucratic excuses," Eleanor snapped, stepping closer with predatory grace. "You think because Julian played the white knight yesterday, you are safe here? Julian doesn't love you. Men like him only love power and control. You are a temporary distraction, a vessel for a bloodline he feels obligated to rescue out of misplaced guilt over your father."
"You know nothing about my father, or about Julian," Clara replied, her voice steady despite the adrenaline spiking in her veins.
Eleanor laughed, a sharp, humorless sound. "I know everything. Richard Sterling was a weak man who gambled away his engineering firm and lost. And you are following in his footsteps, letting a married billionaire use you as a pawn in a bitter domestic dispute."
Before Clara could formulate a reply, the heavy glass door swung open with a loud thud. Julian strode into the solarium, his face carved from granite. The dark tattoos on his neck seemed to pulse with tension as he positioned himself directly between Eleanor and Clara, shielding the younger woman from further verbal assault.
"Leave her alone, Eleanor," Julian commanded, his voice dropping an octave into a dangerous register. "This conversation was supposed to be between you and me."

Eleanor glared past Julian’s broad shoulder at Clara. "You think you can protect her forever, Julian? The board meeting is tomorrow. Once I present the financial audits proving you’ve been funneling corporate trust funds into private real estate acquisitions for this girl, you’ll both be ruined. She’ll have nothing, and you’ll be stripped of your titles."
Julian didn't blink. "Present whatever you like, Eleanor. The truth always outlives a fabricated audit."
