Chapter 10 - The Man In The Charcoal Suit

The man in the charcoal suit didn't flinch. He stood motionless in the center of the fluorescent-lit vault, his hands tucked neatly into his tailored pockets as his dark, calculating eyes swept across the room. He had the same sharp jawline and piercing gaze as Marcus, but possessed an aura of terrifying, corporate coldness that made Marcus look like an amateur.

"I know you're hiding behind those boxes, Ava," the man said smoothly, his voice echoing off the damp concrete walls without a trace of anger, only clinical amusement. "You have your mother's stubbornness, but unfortunately, you lack her survival instincts."

Ava froze behind the metal storage crates, her lungs burning as she fought to keep her breathing silent. How did he know her name? Who was this man who walked the subterranean halls of the estate as if he owned every brick and beam?

The man walked slowly toward the server towers, his expensive leather shoes clicking rhythmically against the damp floor. He stopped right beside the stack of boxes where Ava was cowering, looking down at the edge of her dark pants visible beneath the metal frame.

"You found the laptop. You found the key. You even managed to slip past the security locks in the East Wing," the man continued, his tone conversational, as if he were discussing the weather rather than a deadly game of cat and mouse. "Marcus and Elena are downstairs tearing each other apart, believing they are still pulling the strings. But they're just pawns in a game that started long before you were ever brought into this house."

Ava couldn't stay hidden any longer. The sheer psychological pressure cracked her resolve. She pushed herself up from the floor, stepping out from behind the storage boxes with her fists clenched and her eyes blazing with a mixture of terror and white-hot fury.

"Who are you?" Ava demanded, her voice echoing sharply off the concrete walls. "What is this place? And who is the girl in that cell?"

The man turned slowly to face her. A faint, knowing smile touched the corners of his mouth. "My name is Julian. And to answer your second question... that girl in the cell isn't a ghost, Ava. She is the original heir to this entire empire. And you? You were manufactured to take her place when she became too difficult to control."

Ava staggered back as if she had been physically struck. The words washed over her, tearing away the last remaining illusions of her identity, her past, and her purpose in this house.

"Manufactured?" Ava whispered, her voice trembling violently. "What are you talking about?"

Julian reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a heavy manila folder, tossing it carelessly onto a metal desk beside the computer monitors. "Open it. It contains every medical record, DNA match, and financial transaction proving that you are clone number three in a lineage designed to inherit a stolen fortune."
