Chapter 13

The courtroom was packed to absolute capacity on the final day of the trial. Photographers crowded the aisles, and the hum of whispered speculation died instantly as Judge Evelyn Vance entered, her expression solemn and unreadable.

Arthur Vance sat with his head bowed, looking every bit of his advanced age. Camilla sat beside him, her spine rigidly straight, her jaw clenched so tight her cheek muscles twitched beneath her skin.

“After a thorough review of all federal indictments, financial records, and corroborating witness testimonies in the matter of United States v. Thorne-Vance Enterprises, this court has reached a final verdict,” Judge Vance announced, her voice ringing clear and authoritative through the silent room.

On all counts of corporate fraud, systematic labor exploitation, witness intimidation, and financial conspiracy, the defendants Arthur Vance and Camilla Thorne were found guilty.

“Arthur Vance, you are sentenced to twelve years in a federal correctional facility, with a mandatory asset forfeiture of all personal holdings linked to the illicit slush funds,” Judge Vance stated, her gavel striking the wooden block with a sharp, echoing crack. “Camilla Thorne, for your direct role in orchestrating the physical intimidation, false imprisonment, and systemic wage theft of domestic personnel, you are sentenced to ten years in federal prison without the possibility of parole for the first five.”

A collective gasp echoed through the gallery. Camilla didn't scream or break down in theatrical tears; instead, her eyes widened in profound, paralyzing shock as federal marshals stepped up behind her, their cuffs clicking into place with cold finality. As they led her past the front row, she locked eyes with Julian one last time. Her expression was a hollow shell of the arrogant hauteur she had worn on the night of the gala.

Julian met her gaze without malice or triumph—only a profound, heavy closure. He stood up slowly from his seat, adjusting his dark button-down shirt, and offered Elena a reassuring nod. The trial was over, the corrupt dynasty had fallen, and the expensive illusion of untouchable power had finally evaporated into the harsh light of reality.

As the marshals escorted the convicted felons through the side doors, the heavy oak panels swung shut, sealing away the last dark chapter of Blacktie Estates. The courtroom slowly emptied, leaving Julian and Elena standing together in the quiet gallery, ready to step out into a world that was finally free, honest, and truly redeemed.
