Chapter 15: The Whole Frame

Three years after the day at Palmer Hall, the pecan orchard on Wadmalaw Island was alive with music, laughter, and the rich scent of an outdoor autumn harvest feast.

Long wooden harvest tables, built by Gabriel from native red cedar, stretched beneath the ancient live oaks, covered with white linen cloths, platters of roasted local seafood, sweet corn, fresh sourdough bread, and pitchers of sweet mint tea.

Dozens of friends were gathered: forensic investigators from the center, local island families, Martha, and neighbors from across the county.

In the center of the lawn, Daisy, now nine years old and thriving as an accomplished young artist and sailor, was running through the grass with her golden retriever, her laughter ringing pure and fearless across the salt marsh.

On the front porch wall of the farmhouse hung a new, custom-built walnut shadowbox frame crafted by Gabriel.

Inside the frame, protected by clean, unbroken museum glass, was a large watercolor painting Daisy had made on the day they painted sunshine in the barn—a vibrant, swirling sunset of turquoise, gold, and amber, signed in small, proud letters: DAISY & MOMMY & GABRIEL.

Nora stood on the porch steps, holding Gabriel’s hand, watching her daughter play in the golden afternoon light.

There were no false accusations here. There were no gilded masks, no broken heirlooms, no shadows in the dark.

There was only an open orchard, an unshakeable home, and a family framed forever in the rich, radiant, and unbreakable light of love and truth.
