Chapter 7 - The Ultimatum

The silver barrel of Marcus’s weapon caught the dim light of the emergency exit signs, casting a cold, metallic glint across the ruined office. Julian stood frozen, his muscles locked in agonizing tension. Every instinct screamed at him to lunge for the gun, but out of the corner of his eye, he saw one of the hired thugs reach out and grab Lily’s arm, pulling the terrified girl out from behind the mahogany desk.
Lily gasped, dropping one of her aluminum crutches with a loud clatter against the hardwood floor. "Daddy!" she cried out, tears finally spilling over her dark lashes.
"Don't touch her!" Julian shouted, taking a half-step forward.
Marcus clicked the safety off with an audible snap. "I wouldn't, Julian. Unless you want your daughter to join your dear mother in whatever quiet resting place she currently occupies."
Victoria stepped closer, her expression turning ice-cold as she reached into her bridal handbag and pulled out a sleek leather folder containing several pre-printed legal documents. She dropped them onto the remaining intact section of the desk, along with a heavy gold fountain pen.
"Sign, Julian," Victoria instructed, her tone devoid of any lingering affection. "The company, the real estate portfolio, and the full relinquishment of parental custody to me. In exchange, the girl gets to live out her days quietly in a private boarding facility upstate. She’ll have everything she needs, minus the constant burden of trying to fit into our high-society life."
Julian stared at the documents. The sheer magnitude of her betrayal washed over him, drowning out the residual grief of the wedding day. She hadn't just wanted his money; she had engineered a complete erasure of his bloodline, using him as a stepping stone to acquire absolute control over his empire before systematically disposing of anyone who stood in her way.
He slowly reached for the gold fountain pen, his fingers trembling slightly as he uncapped it.
"Good boy," Victoria purred, stepping closer to watch him sign away his entire life’s work. "You always were entirely too sentimental for your own good."
Julian positioned the nib of the pen over the signature line on the bottom of the first page. He looked up, his gaze locking directly onto Victoria’s triumphant eyes.
"You forgot one critical detail about my mother, Victoria," Julian said softly, his voice eerily calm.
Victoria frowned, her triumphant smirk faltering slightly. "What are you talking about?"
May you like
Julian pressed the heavy glass paperweight on his desk three times in rapid succession. Suddenly, the security monitors mounted along the back wall flickered to life, broadcasting live courtroom audio and federal indictment notices directly into the room.
