Chapter 11 - The Digital Hostage

The digitized voice echoed off the damp concrete of the precinct parking garage, smooth and synthetic, yet carrying a chilling familiarity.

"Hello, nephew," the speakers hissed. "If you're listening to this, it means Agent Miller’s little briefing is right on schedule. But your federal escort isn't coming."

Julian whipped around, his hand instinctively reaching for his phone, but Agent Miller had already drawn his service weapon, spinning around to cover the perimeter. However, the marshals stationed by the exit gates were nowhere to be seen—their tactical vehicles stood empty, doors wide open, with no sign of a struggle.

"Where are my men?" Miller demanded, his sharp eyes scanning the shadowy pillars of the parking structure.

"They're taking a brief, medically induced nap," the synthetic voice replied smoothly. "Just like your mother, Agent Miller. Some people simply don't know when to stop digging into family matters."

Suddenly, the screen inside the open car door shifted from the safehouse feed to a live broadcast of Lily sitting in the secure room. Standing behind her was a tall man in a dark trench coat, his face obscured by the shadows, holding a glowing digital tablet directly above her head.

"Daddy!" Lily’s panicked voice cried out from the car speakers as she struggled against the restraint of the chair.

Julian’s chest tightened into a knot of pure terror. "If you touch her, I swear to God—"

"Save the dramatics, Julian," the voice interrupted, dropping the synthetic filter to reveal a crisp, cultured British accent that matched the photograph from Geneva. "You always were overly emotional. Now, listen very carefully. You have exactly one hour to drive out to the old family lighthouse on the North Cliff. Come alone, bring the physical vault keys, and sign the final corporate dissolution papers in person. Do that, and your daughter walks away unharmed."

The screen flickered black, cutting off the transmission with a soft click.

Agent Miller lowered his weapon slightly, his face grim. "That wasn't a standard local syndicate, Sterling. That’s an elite private security contractor. We’ve been compromised from within the precinct."

Julian didn't hesitate. He reached into his coat pocket and pulled out his car keys, his jaw set with lethal determination. "I'm going to the North Cliff."

"You can't go alone, Julian. It's a suicide mission," Miller warned, stepping forward.

"If I take backup, they kill Lily before we even reach the property," Julian said, his dark eyes burning with unyielding resolve. "My mother trusted me to protect our legacy and my daughter. I failed to protect my mother, and I almost lost Lily today. I will not fail her again."

Julian sprinted toward his own vehicle, ignoring the shouts of the federal agent behind him, and slammed the accelerator down, tires squealing as he tore out of the parking garage into the rainy night.
