Chapter 2

The heavy oak doors swung inward, revealing the vast, echoing expanse of the Blackwood foyer. Sunlight poured through the stained-glass dome overhead, casting long, fractured shadows across the polished white marble. Clara stood frozen on the threshold, her chest heaving as crimson droplets from her torn lip mixed with the dew on her collarbone. Her father, Arthur, remained anchored in the center of the entrance, his tailored brown checked vest gleaming faintly under the chandelier. He did not extend a hand, nor did he offer a word of comfort. His silence was a wall far heavier than any stone.
From the shadows of the sweeping grand staircase, a slender figure emerged. Elena, thirty-five, moved with the quiet grace of a predator, her emerald satin dress shimmering like dark water against the stark white stone. In her hand, she clutched a sleek smartphone, the screen illuminated by a harsh, cold light. Her dark hair was pinned back neatly, framing a face that had turned from initial shock to an expression of profound, chilling betrayal. She stopped three steps from the bottom, her eyes locked onto Arthur with a look that could cut glass.
"You actually have the nerve to call your mistress right in front of me," Elena said, her voice dropping into a register so low and controlled it felt more dangerous than a shout.
Arthur’s gaze flicked away from Clara for a fraction of a second, the first sign of a crack in his formidable armor. He adjusted the gold cuff links at his wrists, maintaining a veneer of corporate detachment that had built his empire. Clara, still trembling from the brush with Julian’s brick in the garden, watched the domestic drama unfold with a numb disbelief. She was bleeding, shivering, and entirely discarded, yet the war inside the mansion was shifting toward a battlefield she had never anticipated.
Elena raised the phone higher, pressing the screen forward so the harsh light exposed the caller ID. The name displayed in bold, accusing letters was simple: "Honey." It was a cruel irony hanging in the silent air of the foyer, mocking the vows and the luxury that bound them.

"What happens if we actually get married?" Elena challenged, stepping down the final stair, her heels clicking sharply against the marble like falling artillery shells. The tension in the room grew so dense it felt difficult to draw breath. Arthur stared back with stern tension, his gray eyes narrowing as Julian’s heavy footsteps echoed from the porch behind Clara, bringing the external threat right back inside the house.
