The Stripping of the Name

Richard looked up from the floor, his polished veneer shattering into ugly, desperate terror.
"Alex... the marina project was supposed to make twenty million," Richard pleaded, his voice cracking. "I was going to put the money back! I swear to God, I was going to move them into the penthouse once the loan cleared! You had so much... you never even looked at the trust statements! You didn't care!"
"I trusted you," Alexander said, the words hitting the room like heavy granite blocks. "I trusted my own blood to protect the two people who mattered most in this world, because I was too arrogant and too busy building an empire to look for myself."
Alexander turned to Thomas and the private investigators.
"Execute the emergency seizure clauses on every asset bearing the Vance name that Richard has access to," Alexander commanded. "Freeze his accounts, revoke his corporate shares, seize his vehicles, and file the criminal indictment package with the District Attorney's office by 8:00 AM."
The lead attorney beside Richard stepped forward nervously. "Mr. Vance... if you file those criminal charges, the Vance corporate stock will plummet thirty percent at market open."
Alexander turned his cold green eyes onto the lawyer. "Let it burn to the ground. If a company cannot protect a seven-year-old child, it has no right to exist."

He looked back down at his brother, who was weeping openly on the carpet.
"You have one hour to surrender your passport to the state investigators waiting in the lobby," Alexander said quietly. "After that, you are a fugitive."
