Chapter 1: The Electric Shock**

The ballroom held its breath. Julian Vance sat frozen in his custom titanium wheelchair, his pupils blown wide as an electric, prickling heat surged up from his arches to his knees—a sensation he had not felt in six agonizing years.
Before him, five-year-old Lily looked up with untainted hazel eyes, her small hands resting gently on the silver basin of warm water. She didn’t look away. She smiled with the calm certainty only an innocent child could possess.
“Julian?” Victoria’s icy voice cut through the stunned silence. The heiress stepped closer, her velvet gown sweeping the marble floor. Her arms remained tightly crossed, her lips curled in mocking disdain. “Stop indulging her nonsense. It’s an insult to the specialists from Johns Hopkins who treated you.”
Julian didn’t answer. His breathing grew ragged. Slowly, deliberately, he focused every ounce of his will on his right foot submerged in the ripples.
A twitch. Then, a distinct jerk of his big toe against the cool metal surface of the bowl.
Gasps rippled across the gala. Julian’s loyal bodyguard, Marcus, stepped forward, his stoic face cracking into sheer disbelief.
“Mr. Vance… did you just move?” Marcus whispered.
Julian gripped the leather armrests, his knuckles turning stark white. He looked down at Lily, whose soft curls framed a face full of unyielding warmth.
“Who sent you, sweetheart?” Julian asked, his voice trembling like thin ice over deep water.
Lily reached into her tiny pinafore pocket and pulled out a worn, yellowed envelope. “My mama told me that when your feet are clean, your soul can walk again.”
May you like
Victoria lunged forward to snatch the letter, but Julian’s hand shot out with blinding speed, catching her wrist in an iron grip.
