Chapter 1: The Weight of Brass**

The crystal chandelier above the grand foyer hummed with quiet, expensive electricity. Mauricio’s jaw hung slack, his skin draining of color until he looked like a marble statue carved out of guilt. The four solid brass keys in Leo’s calloused palm didn’t just represent ownership of the ninety-million-dollar estate; they represented the end of Mauricio’s fabricated empire.

"You’re… you’re supposed to be in Zurich," Mauricio stammered, his fingers trembling around the greasy takeout bag.

"I took a detour," Leo said, his voice flat, razor-sharp, and dangerously quiet. He unzipped the stained yellow high-vis vest and dropped it onto the pristine marble floor. "A twenty-mile ride in the pouring rain just to see why our regional logistics department was reporting a forty percent deficit in operational funds."

Behind Mauricio, the champagne flutes began to shake in manicured hands. Elena, Mauricio’s socialite fiancée, stepped forward, her diamond tennis bracelet catching the light. "Mauricio, what is this? Who is this boy?"

"He’s not a boy, Elena," Mauricio choked out, his throat dry. "He’s Leo Vance."

A collective gasp rippled through the gallery of guests. In Silicon Valley and Manhattan alike, the Vance name was synonymous with unseen power. Leo had built Vance Global Logistics from a rusty two-truck courier service into a multi-billion-dollar supply chain titan. Yet he remained famously reclusive, a ghost who lived on the ground floor of his enterprise.

"You took credit for the driver algorithms," Leo said, stepping closer. Every step resonated through the dead-silent hall. "You cut medical benefits for ten thousand ground couriers to fund this party. And then you told one of them to eat his dignity off your floor."

"It was a joke, Leo! A high-stress day, just blowing off steam—"

"Pack your bags," Leo interrupted, his hazel eyes locking onto Mauricio with absolute finality. "Every security pass is revoked. Every offshore account under the company umbrella is frozen. You have until sunrise to vacate my property. Welcome to the bottom, Mauricio."
