Chapter 9: The Hospital Corridor**

Within minutes, federal agents had secured the warehouse, cuffing Richard and his associates. Paramedics rushed inside, carefully cutting the ropes binding Elena and wrapping her in an insulated thermal blanket.
At St. Jude Memorial Hospital, Victoria sat in a quiet corner of the private emergency wing. She refused treatment for her own minor cuts and scrapes until she knew Elena was safe.
The doctor finally stepped out of the examination room, pulling down his surgical mask. “Miss Sterling? Your mother suffered mild dehydration, bruising, and elevated blood pressure, but there are no broken bones or internal injuries. She’s resting comfortably.”
Victoria exhaled a breath she felt she had been holding for thirty-four years. “Can I see her?”
“She’s asking for Clara,” the doctor smiled gently.
Victoria walked into the dimly lit room. Elena lay in the hospital bed, the monitors beeping in a rhythmic, comforting cadence. When Elena saw Victoria walk through the door, a weak, radiant smile spread across her tired face.
Victoria pulled a chair right next to the bed and took Elena’s warm, frail hand between both of hers.
“You fought for me,” Elena whispered softly. “You gave up your whole empire just to stand by my side.”
“An empire built on stolen lives isn’t worth a single dime,” Victoria replied, resting her forehead against their joined hands. “For the first time in my life, I know who I am. I’m not Arthur Sterling’s manufactured prodigy. I’m your daughter.”

Elena gently stroked Victoria’s hair. “You will always be my little star.”
