Chapter 10: The Confession

Arthur’s voice resonated through the state-of-the-art conference room speakers:
> *"...Miss Sterling told me to falsify the maintenance log for Sector 4... Vance Dynamics cut the safety budget by forty percent..."*
The silence in the room became absolute. The color washed completely out of Victoria’s face. Several board members looked down at their polished desks in shame, while others exchanged terrified glances.
"That recording is inadmissible! It’s unverified hearsay from a dead janitor!" Victoria shrieked, her composed facade crumbling into raw hysteria. "I will sue you into bankruptcy, Marcus! You are destroying everything we built!"
"No, Victoria," Marcus said, his voice ringing with absolute clarity. "You destroyed it the day you chose stock margins over human lives."
Marcus stood up and turned to the board.
"Downstairs, there are two hundred reporters, twenty federal prosecutors from the Southern District of New York, and three national television networks waiting for the merger announcement. In ten minutes, I am going down to that podium."
He leaned over the table, fixing Victoria in a piercing stare.
"I am releasing this tape. I am handing over the original safety logs from locker 104. And I am submitting my immediate resignation as Chief Executive Officer."
A collective gasp swept through the room.
"Are you insane?!" a senior director cried. "You'll lose your fortune! The stock will crater fifty percent!"
May you like
"Then let it crater," Marcus replied. "Some debts can only be paid in truth."
