Chapter 9 - The Siege at the Glass Door

The rhythmic pounding against the heavy steel security shutters grew louder, vibrating through the floorboards and rattling the empty pizza boxes on the tables. The chant—*Like, Comment, Subscribe*—was no longer a muffled echo; it was a deafening roar of a digital mob materialized in the physical world.
Leo covered his ears with his small hands, looking up at Marcus with eyes wide with panic. "What's happening? Are they mad at me?"
Marcus stepped in front of the toddler, planting his thick legs shoulder-width apart as he stared at the shaking metal door. His massive biceps flexed beneath his dark blue t-shirt, veins standing out along his forearms. "They aren't mad, kid. They're hungry. Just like you."
Vance was typing furiously on his glowing tablet, sweat beading on his sharp forehead for the first time all evening. "This is unprecedented," he muttered, his voice losing its usual icy composure. "The physical-digital convergence boundary has been breached. The algorithm is no longer just observing the content—it’s consuming the venue."
The Architect stood silently on the hydraulic platform, their glowing virtual reality visor pulsing in sync with the heavy bass of the chanting crowd outside. They raised a single hand toward the ceiling, and the crimson emergency lights instantly shifted to a brilliant, blinding white.
"The crowd has spoken," the Architect modulated, their voice echoing with digital authority. "The barrier between creator and consumer has dissolved. To open the doors and claim the supreme slice, the toddler must utter the final three words."
Leo lowered his hands slowly, looking from the towering Marcus, to the sweating Vance, and finally up to the glowing visor of the Architect. He took a deep breath, the patriotic fabric of his American flag onesie rising and falling with his steadying chest. He remembered the smell of the melting cheese, the stretch of the mozzarella, and the cold, cruel denial that started this entire nightmare.
"What... what are the words?" Leo asked, his voice steadying despite the chaos raging around them.
The Architect leaned in close, the digital modulator dropping to a soft, confidential whisper. "Say it, Leo. Tell them what they came here to hear."
Leo turned his small body around to face the shaking metal shutters, lifting his chin with a defiant, heartbreaking grace. He took a deep, shuddering breath, opened his mouth, and spoke into the microphone hidden in the ceiling above.
"Please..." Leo’s voice rang out clearly across the entire restaurant, carrying through the speakers and straight into the streets outside. "...like and comment my video."
For one agonizing second, absolute silence fell over the entire block. The pounding on the door stopped instantly. Even the hum of the kitchen exhaust fans seemed to die away.

Then, with a deafening CRACK, the heavy steel security shutter was blown inward, tumbling across the checkered floor in a shower of sparks and shattered glass as a tidal wave of humanity surged into the restaurant.
