Chapter 11 - The Golden Stretch

The restaurant was dead silent. Every single smartphone camera lens tilted downward, locking onto the silver tray like heat-seeking missiles. Millions of viewers tuning in from home held their breath as the golden tower of melted cheese hovered in the harsh fluorescent light, defying gravity and logic alike.
Leo stepped forward, his small sneakers squeaking softly on the glass-littered floor. He didn't say a word. He didn't need to. His big hopeful eyes, once filled with tears of rejection, now reflected the shimmering, molten glory of the mozzarella tower in all its high-definition splendor.
Marcus slowly removed his hand from Leo's shoulder, taking a half-step back to give the toddler room. A rare, genuine smile broke across the muscular man's stern face, softening his heavy jawline.
"Go ahead, kid," Marcus said quietly. "You earned every single byte."
Leo reached out a trembling hand. His chubby fingers wrapped around the warm, crispy crust of the pizza slice. He pulled upward gently, and the cheese responded with a majestic, unbroken elastic stretch that seemed to reach all the way up to the ceiling lights before finally snapping with a satisfying, soft twang.
A collective cheer erupted from the crowd of onlookers, followed by the frantic sound of a million virtual cameras capturing the historic moment in 4K resolution. Vance leaned against the jukebox, letting out a long, exhausted breath as he watched his engagement charts stabilize into a smooth, glowing line of pure success.
Leo brought the heavy, steaming slice down to his level, ignoring the mess and the cameras and the digital algorithms that had tormented him for hours. He took a massive, unhesitating bite.
The rich taste of savory pepperoni, tangy tomato, garlic, and perfectly cooked dough exploded across his taste buds. It was everything he had dreamed of—warm, comforting, and infinitely satisfying.
Engagement Peak: 100%. Viral Loop Closed Successfully.
The automated system voice chimed pleasantly from the overhead speakers, followed by the sound of the front security shutters rolling upward automatically, letting in the cool, crisp air of the real world outside.
The crowd began to disperse slowly, murmuring amongst themselves as they reviewed their footage and uploaded their clips to the global network. Within minutes, the restaurant was quiet again, returning to its familiar hum of fluorescent lights and kitchen exhaust fans.
Only Marcus, Vance, the elderly woman, and little Leo remained standing around the checkered laminate table.
Leo wiped a stray streak of tomato sauce from his chin, holding the half-eaten pizza slice in his small hands with an expression of supreme, unadulterated happiness. He looked up at Marcus, his mouth full of cheese.
"Can I have another piece?" Leo asked innocently.
Marcus let out a deep, booming laugh that shook the salt shakers on the table. He reached into the cardboard box, pulled out a second massive slice, and laid it gently onto a brand-new, unbroken white plate that the elderly woman slid across the table.
"Only," Marcus grinned, pointing a finger playfully at the toddler, "if you promise to never read the comment section again."

Leo smiled, his big eyes shining bright under the neon lights. But before he could take his second bite, the restaurant's landline telephone behind the counter began to ring with a sharp, insistent jingle that cut through the silence.
