Chapter 9 - The Final Signature

Harrison Cole placed a heavy leather briefcase onto the mahogany table, right on top of the display of instant noodle cups. The metal latches clicked open with a sharp, echoing sound that seemed to reverberate through the empty ballroom.

Julian stepped forward, narrowing his eyes at the attorney. "What are you talking about, Harrison? What instruction?"

Harrison pulled out a thick document bound in dark blue leather, sliding it across the table toward Julian. "Your mother anticipated an investigation, Julian. She drafted a preemptive disinheritance clause. If she is ever convicted, her entire estate goes directly into a blind corporate trust managed by me—unless you, as her direct biological heir, sign this waiver relinquishing your right to contest it in favor of the family foundation."

Chloe crossed her arms, her instincts screaming a silent warning. "Don't sign it, Julian. It’s a trap."

"Listen to the girl," Harrison mocked, his tone dripping with condescension. "She smells the money and wants to make sure she gets her cut of the stolen pie."

"Shut your mouth, Harrison," Julian snapped, his voice ringing with cold authority. He looked down at the document. "If I sign this, where does the money actually go?"

"It goes to the Sterling Heritage Foundation," Harrison replied smoothly. "Which I happen to control as executive director."

Arthur Vance slammed his cane down onto the floor. "That’s a blatant conflict of interest! The foundation is currently under federal freeze!"

"Only temporarily, Arthur," Harrison smiled, unfazed. "The freeze applies to Victoria’s personal assets, not the independent corporate trust. Once Julian signs this paper, the trust becomes legally untouchable by the Attorney General."

Chloe stepped closer to Julian, her hand gently brushing against his arm. The warmth of her touch grounded him amidst the chaos. "Julian, think about what this means. If you sign, Harrison gets absolute control of the billions your mother stole. The shelters won't get a dime. The victims of her fraud will never see restitution."

Julian looked down at the pen Harrison had placed beside the leather-bound document. A sleek, silver fountain pen with a familiar family crest engraved on the cap.

"And if I don't sign?" Julian asked, looking up at the attorney.

"Then the entire estate is frozen in probate court for the next ten years," Harrison said, his smile vanishing as his eyes turned hard. "Nobody gets a penny, the family name is dragged through the mud, and you and your little girlfriend go back to eating cup noodles in a damp basement."

Julian picked up the silver pen, turning it over in his hand. The ballroom grew deathly quiet, every eye fixed on the tip of the pen hovering above the signature line.

"Julian, don't," Chloe whispered, her blue eyes filled with urgent plea.

Julian looked at Chloe, then down at the pen, and slowly turned his wrist toward the document.
