Chapter 11: Rebuilding the Foundation

The following Monday morning marked a new chapter for Vance Industries. The grand lobby of the corporate headquarters bustled with renewed energy as employees went about their tasks under a newly implemented corporate governance code. In her fifty-floor office, Victoria reviewed the finalized audit reports from the forensic accounting team. Every discrepancy left behind by Julian had been addressed, every compromised asset recovered and reallocated to legitimate infrastructural development projects.

Marcus walked into the office carrying a freshly pressed leather binder and a steaming cup of coffee, which he placed gently on Victoria’s desk.

“The board ratified the new governance charter with a hundred percent approval rating this morning,” Marcus reported, taking a seat opposite her. “The stock market responded favorably, with shares climbing three points within the first hour of trading. The financial media is praising our swift transparency regarding Julian’s removal.”

Victoria looked up from her documents, her expression composed and professional. “Good. But I don't want us resting on public relations victories. I want our internal security protocols audited every six months by an independent third-party firm. We leave no blind spots.”

“Already arranged,” Marcus nodded approvingly. “By the way, Julian’s formal arraignment is scheduled for tomorrow morning at the federal district court. The prosecutor confirmed he’ll be facing a minimum of eight to ten years without the possibility of early parole, given the scale of the financial fraud.”

Victoria remained silent for a moment, her gaze drifting toward the panoramic window. “Will there be media presence?”

“Controlled,” Marcus said. “We ensured our PR team framed it as a corporate auditing success story rather than a sordid family drama. The Vance name remains untainted.”

“Good,” Victoria said firmly. “Close that chapter, Marcus. I want my complete focus moving forward to be on our expansion into sustainable community development projects. We need to demonstrate that Vance Industries is not just about wealth accumulation, but about genuine societal value.”

Marcus smiled faintly. “Father would have been proud of that vision, Victoria. You’re turning this conglomerate into something enduring.”

“I’m building a world where my daughter doesn't have to fight to be respected,” Victoria replied quietly.

As Marcus left the office to execute the new directives, Victoria picked up a framed photograph on her desk—a candid shot of herself and Lily laughing together in the garden, bathed in golden sunlight. The shattered glass of the ballroom felt like a distant nightmare, a painful catalyst that had cleared away the impurities and left behind something unbreakable.
